Frequently Asked Questions
Q: How did we choose a country for international adoption?
A: China was an easy choice for us. We can’t really remember ever discussing particular countries, China was just always in our hearts and minds. When the time was right for us to pursue application, we never really questioned our country choice.

Q: Why not a domestic adoption?
A: Domestic adoptions are more emotionally complicated. China provides a very concrete, well-defined system for adoptive parents. The U.S. system seems far less organized, and biological parents have different rights depending upon the state.

Q: Are you definitely getting a girl?
A: The vast majority of available children in China are girls. The chance of us getting a boy referral is slim - but there have been some “surprise” boys referred in the last six months. We did specifically ask for a girl in our dossier, but we’ll see...

Q: Would you recommend your agency to other families?
A: If you would like more information about our agency, we’d be happy to provide it via personal e-mail.

Q: Do you have a name for your daughter?
A: We have a very small list of names that we love... but we plan to wait to meet our daughter before we officially name her. We haven’t yet decided if we are going to keep a portion of her Chinese name.

Q: How old will your daughter be when you bring her home?
A: We’re not sure. Children in China are not available for adoption until they are 6 months of age. That means that the youngest age possible at referral is 6 months - but by the time you come home the child will be closer to 9 months. We did say that we would take a child up to 18 months, but remember, everything you ask for is simply a REQUEST. China will match us with the child they want us to have...
